Site Introduction

Located within the rapidly growing neighbourhood of Liberty Village, the site houses a historically significant building dating back to 1898. The industrial building originally housed St. David’s Wine Grower’s Co. and, later, a warehouse for Eaton’s. In the 90s it was converted by Artscape, in partnership with the Toronto Economic Development Corporation, into studios for artists.

Between 2010 and 2012, Build Toronto had the opportunity to develop a new vision for this historically significant building. Completing a feasibility study, massing design and engineering analysis, we created a mixed-use concept and sold the project to a developer who shared our vision and was able to integrate the existing two-and-a-half-storey brick building on site. We are proud of the work Hullmark Development Ltd. has done in adaptively reusing the heritage-designated building for employment use, including retail and office.

In September 2015, Heritage Toronto announced 60 Atlantic Avenue, as one of the 16 nominees for the William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship category of the 41st Annual Heritage Toronto Awards.
