Build Toronto wins 2017 Brownie Award - New Eva’s Phoenix (Toronto, ON)
On Wednesday, November 22, the Canadian Brownfields Network announced the winning and shortlisted projects and programs for the 2017 Brownie Awards. The New Eva’s Phoenix (Toronto, Ontario) part of Build Toronto’s collective 505 Richmond Street West project was recognized for leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability and won the REBUILD – Redevelopment at the Local, Site Scale award. Build Toronto is proud to have worked on such an impactful project providing a home for 50 homeless youths and helping them lead productive, self-sufficient and healthy lives with provided support and skills-based training programs for a brighter future.
Sixteen projects, representing municipalities from across Canada, were named as finalists for six main categories at the awards. The six categories were: REPROGRAM, REMEDIATE, REINVEST, REBUILD, RENEW and REACH OUT.
The Brownie Awards recognize the builders, innovators and visionaries who are dedicated to the rehabilitation of brownfield sites that were once contaminated, underutilized and undeveloped into productive residential and commercial projects that contribute to the growth of healthy communities across Canada.
